Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan Presidents signed joint statement and a number of agreements
Ashkhabad. May 21. Kazakhstan Today - The official negotiations of the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and Ilham Aliyev came to an end by signing joint statement of the leaders of two countries and a number of agreements on Tuesday, the agency reports.
The parties signed the agreements on collaboration between commercial and industrial chambers, between the ministries of finance, protocol on collaboration between the ministers for foreign affairs of two countries, intergovernmental agreements on international combined freight transportations, international motor transportations, cooperation in the sphere of standardization, metrology and accreditation, and collaboration in sphere of youth affairs and sports.
"This visit is of great significance to us," the President of Azerbaijan I. Aliyev said after signing joint statement. He said that during the negotiations the parties paid attention to strengthening of safety in the region. The parties also discussed the issues of cooperation in the sphere of transport, energy engineering, and Caspian problems. "The signed documents define the formats of cooperation. I am sure that the visit will continue as successfully as it started," Aliyev said.
However, the Presidents have not managed to agree on the main issue - division of the Caspian Sea. "They made a decision to come back to this topic during the Caspian conference," Azerbaijan president's administration informed the agency.
On May, 20 the President G. Berdymukhamedov will visit Baku State University where he will be conferred the rank of the Honored Doctor. Also during the visit the Turkmen leader will officially open the embassy of Turkmenistan in Azerbaijan.
