Strategy of Japanese corporations needs to be changed - Nazarbayev
Tokyo. June 20. Kazakhstan Today - Strategy of Japanese corporations consisting in providing equipment and services, instead of direct investment needs to be changed. The President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev stated during the meeting with the Minister of Economics, Industry and Commerce of Japan Akira Amari, Chairmen of Boards and Presidents of world famous companies - Sumitomo Corporation, Marubeni Corporation, Toshiba, Kansai Electric Power, Tokyo Electric Power, Mitsui, Itochu, Mitsubishi, Inpex, the agency reports.
N. Nazarbayev noted that "degree of the Kazakhstan-Japanese economic partnership remains low and does not corresponds to economic potential of Kazakhstan and Japan."
"The economy of Kazakhstan has been steadily developing. The market of the neighboring countries takes in more than 500 million people. Japanese corporations need to change their strategy, which today consists in provision of equipment and services, instead of direct investment. We are ready to give lands, raw materials, and state order. Our interest consists in having innovative manufactures in Kazakhstan and we will completely support such projects," the leader of the state emphasized.
According to the President, "Kazakhstan is ready to offer businessmen of Japan participation in projects of development of processing complex, mechanical engineering, energy, transport, communication infrastructure, construction, and pharmaceutics."
"Kazakhstan has huge free areas of land. Therefore, we have good opportunities for development of cultivation of wheat, rice, animal industries and manufacture of meat and milk production. This direction of cooperation is especially actual on the background of world food crisis," N. Nazarbayev said.
During the negotiations the leader of the state also noted that "Kazakhstan plans to develop its own nuclear power and is ready to consider Japanese project proposals having wide experience in this sphere. In this connection, it is important to conclude that intergovernmental cooperation agreement in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy is called to become the main document for cooperation in this sphere."
