N. Nazarbayev heads work group on development of amendments to the Constitution
ASTANA. February 20. KAZINFORM /Dina Yermaganbetova/ - President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has taken charge of a working group on development of amendments to the Constitution of Kazakhstan.
Igor Rogov, the Chairman of Kazakhstan’s Constitution Council, was appointed as his deputy. After the first sitting of the working group Mr. Rogov informed that the group would work over the proposals on amendments to the Constitution and other laws. “It is necessary to use an opportunity on expansion of the Parliament’s powers, but surely within the frame of the presidential regime”, he noted.
According to him, it is planned to make amendments to the scheme of distribution of authority between the two Houses of the Parliament. In the majority of western countries joint sessions of the chambers are held only on extraordinary occasions.
