Kazakhstan to hold OSCE PA regular sitting in 2008

ASTANA. February 22. KAZINFORM – Today within the frame of the visit of the Kazakh Parliament’s delegation, headed by Senate Chairman Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Vienna, Kazakh parliamentarians took part in the sitting of the Permanent Committee of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and committees for political and security issues, human rights and humanitarian issues; Kazinform refers to the Senate’s press service. Mr. Tokayev informed the participants of the course of economic and political reforms, modernization of state and society in Kazakhstan. He confirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to contribute to the provision of further progress in activity of the OSCE. Leaders of the Parliamentary Assembly and 56 national parliamentary delegations unanimously supported Tokayev’s initiative on holding the regular 17th sitting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in 2008 in Kazakhstan. It will promote development of inter-parliamentary dialogue and involvement of Central Asian states to the achievement of the OSCE purposes. Kazakhstan’s role in the strengthening of regional stability and adherence of the country to the democratic values, observance of human rights and political pluralism were noted at the sitting. Model of interethnic and inter-religious consent created in Kazakhstan was highly estimated by the participants as well.
