Acceptance of Kyoto Protocol to attract additional investments into energy sector
Astana. December 23. Kazakhstan Today - Vice Minister of Environmental Protection, Alzhan Braliev, at the session of Majilis Ecological and Wildlife Management Committee informed that acceptance of Kyoto Protocol will allow Kazakhstan attracting additional investments into the energy sector of the economy, the agency reports.
"Ural thermal power station is an example of realization of the mechanisms of Kyoto Protocol in Kazakhstan. Within the projects the Japanese governmental installed the newest Japanese equipment, which has allowed manufacturing of additional volume of electricity and improving the efficiency of such production," A. Braliev said.
Vice Minister emphasized, "Investments under this project have totaled about $15 million. Reduction of emissions after introduction of the new equipment has totaled about 60 thousand tons a year."
"As a whole, realization of the mechanisms of Kyoto Protocol will allow reaching the purpose of Kazakhstan to become one of 50 most competitive countries of the world and will provide realization of the strategy of industrially-innovative development that assumes increase of GDP with simultaneous decrease of power consumption," he concluded.
