Kazakhstan awarded for realization of Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative

ASTANA. February 18. KAZINFORM The fourth International Conference on the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) opened Monday in Doha, Kazinform refers to the press service of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry. Heads of States, Governments, Ministries, representatives of international financial institutes, and companies of ore mining and oil-and-gas sector, NGOs from over 50 countries of the world take part in the conference. The main purpose of the conference is to share opinions on the process of introduction and promotion of the Initiative in different countries and draw attraction of majority of states to the initiative. The EITI National Stakeholders Council, consisting of the Vice Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Vice President of «KazMunaiGaz» National Company» JSC, representatives of NGOs and oil producing organizations represented Kazakh delegation. Within the conference, the Kazakh delegation briefly reported on introduction of the EITI in Kazakhstan. In was noted that 119 companies joined the Memo on mutual understanding on the EITI, signed in October 2005 by the Kazakh Government, companies and NGOs with the support of the President. On February 17 Kazakh delegation received award for achievements in the field of promotion and realization of the initiative. The conference will end today. Final document and report on the work of the Forum will be adopted upon the results of the conference.
