Kazakhstan awarded for realization of Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative
ASTANA. March 2. KAZINFORM Kazakhstan was awarded for the work on realization of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), Kazinform refers to the National Council on EITI realization in Kazakhstan and the Tax Committee of the Kazakh Ministry of Finance.
The award, instituted this year, was handed out by Chairman of the EITI international Board Peter Eigen at the IV global conference on EITI, held on February 17-19 in Doha. The award witnesses the fact that Kazakhstan has become a leader in the realization of the EITI at the global level.
Kazakh Vice Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Aset Magauov received the award on behalf of the Kazakh delegation. Expressing gratitude to the leadership of the EITI, he stressed the active participation of the members of the EITI Council in realization of the Initiative in Kazakhstan, including the company «ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Inc» representing the interests of mining companies and the NGO coalition, "Oil revenue - under the control of society!", which represents the interests of civil society in Kazakhstan, and also expressed gratitude to the World Bank for permanent support.
The reps of the National Council noted that Kazakhstan became one of the first three countries, that have received awards for contribution to the development of the EITI.
