II Astana Economic Forum kicks off in Palace of Independence
ASTANA. March 11. KAZINFORM II Astana Economic Forum on The economic security of Eurasia in the system of global risks with the participation of President Nursultan Nazarbayev has kicked off in the Palace on Independence today.The I Astana Economic Forum was held on June 27, 2008. It brought together prominent scientists, economists, political figures and representatives of business communities from 45 countries of the world.
The initiators of the Forum are the Ministry of Economy and Budget planning, “The Institute for Economic Research” JSC and “Eurasian Economic Club of Scientists” Association (EECS).
The EECS was established at the Kazakh President’s initiative in June 2008. Its members are the leading scientific organizations from 9 Eurasian countries – Azerbaijan, Armenia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Estonia.
RK Prime Minister Karim Massimov, Noble Prize laureates for Economics, professor Edmund Phelps (2006), and professor Robert Mundell (2008), President of the Islamic Development Bank Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, Advisor to Chairman of BNP PARIBAS (ex-President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) Jean Lemierre, Vice President of the Asian Development Bank Xiaoyu Zhao are expected to take the floor at the plenary session.
The aim of the forum is to work out recommendations on the development of economy in the global crisis.
Following the Forum the participants will adopt an open letter on overcoming the global financial crisis to the G - 20 leaders that is to be discussed at the G - 20 summit in London in April 2009.
