Kazakhstan reckons on expansion of cooperation with EBRD: Finance Minister
ASTANA. May 19. KAZINFORM As earlier reported Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the EBRD of 2009 was held on May 15-16 in the headquarters of the Bank in London. The Kazakh delegation was headed by Kazakh Minister of Finance, EBRD Governor Bolat Zhamishev, Kazinform refers to the press service of the Kazakh Finance Ministry.The EBRD is the biggest investor to all sectors of the Kazakh economy, excluding the oil production. In 1997-2008 the Bank invested to the Kazakh economy over USD 3 bln and financed over 60 projects. Today 12 projects of the state sector are realized in Kazakhstan with attraction of the EBRD loans.
President of the EBRD Thomas Mirow noted that the world financial crisis affected the Bank as well. The EBRD Board of Governors approved a package of anti-crisis measures in December. Strategic document on the crisis overcoming, assistance in the reconstruction of the economy was approved at tone of the sessions of the Meeting.
The Kazakh Finance Minister spoke at one of the sessions of the Meeting. B.Zhamishev presented to the participants of the Meeting the Action Plan of the Kazakh Government on stabilization of the economy and financial system. He noted that Kazakhstan reckons on the expansion of spheres of cooperation with the EBRD, where the issues of development of the non-oil and gas sectors of the economy, improvement of the investment climate, development of tourist sector and agriculture will be discussed as well.
In May, 2011 the Meeting of the EBRD Board of Governors will be held in Kazakhstan.
