Credit portfolio of second-tier banks rose by 10.6% - Financial Supervision Agency
ALMATY. August 12. KAZINFORM /Daniyar Sikhimbayev/ Global financial instability continues to impact negatively on the development of financial sector of Kazakhstan, especially its largest segment - banking sector. Chairman of the Financial Supervision Agency Yelena Bakhmutova has made it public at a special press conference today.
Since the year beginning total assets of the banking system have been increased by 2.2% and have made KZT 12 149.6 bln as of Aug 1. Along with this, the assets of the banks denominated in foreign currency rose by 1.9% and comprised 52.9% of the total assets in the same period.
Credit portfolio of the second-tier banks has risen by 10.6% and has made KZT 10 220.9 bln since beginning of 2009. Loans provided by the banks in foreign currency rose by 28.8% and comprised 60.8% of the total credit portfolio against 52.2% as of Jan 1, 2008.
