Electric power prices to remain relatively inexpensive in Kazakhstan - Ministry of Energy

ASTANA. September 24. KAZINFORM /Kanat Kulshmanov/ Kazakhstan will remain the country with relatively inexpensive electric power. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sauat Mynbayev has made it public at the IV Eurasian Energy Forum in Astana today. "We have adopted a program on stage-by-stage increase of electric power prices till 2015 in order to stimulate investments in this sector. Thus, we have entered in 36 investment projects with the owners of electric power stations to the amount of KZT 67 bln of private investments in 2009", the Minister noted. "We plan to raise electric power tariffs as the country's economy revives. However, I would like to note that Kazakhstan will remain the country with relatively inexpensive electric power. Prices for electric power must attract private investments to this sector. Alongside, we consider energy intensive sector as a key one which Kazakhstan can specialize in. We have all conditions for this", he stressed.
