Kazakhstan ready to increase export to Qatar - Minister of Industry
ASTANA. October 9. KAZINFORM The III session of the Kazakhstan-Qatar Intergovernmental Commission summed up the results of its activity in Astana yesterday. During the two days the parties have been discussing a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation in trade and economy, culture and healthcare.
As Minister of Industry and Trade of Kazakhstan Asset Issekeshev noted, Kazakhstan is ready to raise export of agricultural products, textiles, fertilizers, fur and petrochemical products to Qatar.
"Kazakhstan lays great emphasis on attraction of investments to the development of economy", the Minister added. "That is why the Government of the Republic creates favorable climate for foreign investors. Last March Kazakhstan and Qatar entered into an agreement on mutual protection of investments", he said and informed of carrying out procedures on ratification of the document in the Parliament.
'I would take it kindly if our Qatari colleagues facilitate domestic procedures on ratification of the agreement too", A. Issekeshev noted.
In whole, the participants of the meeting pointed out productivity of the Commission's work which was reflected in a protocol of the sitting. In particular, the point at issue is participation of the Qatari companies in implementation of the projects in oil and gas industry and innovation technologies, creation of a joint investment fund; attraction of Qatari funds and investors to the development of social programs of Kazakhstan; cooperation in agriculture and tourism and IT.
In January-August 2009 trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Qatar made USD 227, 000 and rose 1.3 times compared to 2008 (USD 172, 900).
Export of the Kazakhstan products made USD 28, 100 while in 2008 this figure was USD 23, 400.
Import of the Qatari products made USD 198, 900 having increased 1.3 times. In 2008 this figure comprised USD 149, 500.
