Total volume of inter-bank deposits decreased by 53.2% in 2009 - Marchenko
ALMATY. 13.01.2010. KAZINFORM /Yekaterina Ionova/ In 2009 the total volume of the inter-bank deposits fell by 53.2% compared to 2008 and made KZT 40.7 trln. Chief Banker of the country Grigory Marchenko has informed of it at a special press conference in Almaty today.
The volume of the inter-bank deposits in the tenge rose by 93.2% and reached KZT 16.4 trln. The average weighted rate of return on them made 0.63% in December 2009.
The volume of the deposits attracted by the National Bank from the second-tier banks grew 2.7 times and comprised KZT 16.3 trln.
The volume of the dollar deposits in 2009 reached USD 111 bln 9 mln having decreased by 76.5% in 2009. The average weighted rate of return on them made 0.30% in December 2009 while in December 2008 it was 0.53%.
Rouble deposits comprise less than 1% of the total volume of the inter-bank deposits.
In whole, Marchenko notes high share of foreign currency deposits which makes 59.8% to date. Alongside he says the majority of them are placed in non-resident banks.
