Government takes measures to prevent accidents at Kashagan and other oil deposits - Minister of Oil and Gas
ALMATY. 03.06.2010. KAZINFORM /Rassul Bakhamov/ The Government of Kazakhstan takes all necessary measures to prevent accidents at Kashagan project and other oil deposits, Minister of Oil and Gas Sauat Mynbayev said at the IV Kazakhstan Investment Summit in Almaty today.
Commenting on the recent oil spill in Gulf of Mexico, the Minister noted that the Government of Kazakhstan and the Consortium developing Kashagan must prevent such catastrophes in future.
Oil production at Kashagan differs from the conditions of work in Gulf of Mexico. Kashagan oil is extracted from artificial islands. The Caspian Sea is the closed ecological system and its oil contains too much sulfur.
"Any oil spill is an ecological disaster. On one side, work at Kashagan is carried out in accordance with the agreements concluded earlier. They were not amended. Alongside, we (the Ministry of Oil and Gas and the Consortium - author) consider that ecological issues will be reflected on technological level, taking into consideration the accident in Gulf of Mexico", S. Mynbayev added.
