GM unveils Kazakh-made Chevrolet
NEW YORK. JUne 29. (AP) - General Motors Corp. said Thursday it will launch the first Chevrolet manufactured in Kazakhstan onto that company's market next month.
The company recently opened its first assembly plant in Kazakhstan near the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk. GM said it expects the plant to produce 1,300 cars this year and more than 3,000 in 2008.
Kazakhstan's annual auto sales passed 60,000 for the first time last year, according to a GM statement.
Shares of General Motors Corp. rose 94 cents, or 2.5 percent, to $38.35 in afternoon trading.
