Aral Sea problem should be included into 1st Asia-Pacific Water Summit's program
ASTANA. August 14. KAZINFORM – The second sitting of the managing committee of the Asia-Pacific Water Summit (APWS) took place in Tokyo. Chairman of the water resources committee of the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry Anatoly Ryabtsev took part in the forum; Kazinform refers to the Ministry’s press service.
Problems of the Aral Sea along with many other issues were discussed at the meeting. Crisis of the Aral Sea and problems connected with it aroused significant interest of the forum’s participants. Currently the executive committee of the International Aral Sea Rehabilitation Fund is trying to obtain inclusion of the Aral Sea problem into the Summit’s program.
The 1st Asia-Pacific Water Summit will be held in Beppu city, Oita prefecture, Japan, on December 3 and 4, 2007. Heads of 49 states of the Asia-Pacific region, representatives of the leading organizations will be invited to the Summit.
