Euro commissioner, Kazakhstan Energy Minister discussed energy cooperation
Brussels. September 24. Kazakhstan Today - The European commissioner for Energy Andris Piebalgs and the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sauat Mynbayev met on Thursday in Brussels to discuss the questions of energy cooperation in the view of the last events in the field of realization of the Kashagan deposit project on the Caspian shelf, the agency reports referring to the press service of the European commission representation Kazakhstan.
"Successful cooperation in energy sphere is based on mutual respect, transparency, predictability and non-admission of discrimination. I approve the arguments of the Minister concerning negotiations between the Kazakhstan authorities and Kashagan consortium and hope to receive further information on this issue," the commissioner A. Piebalgs said upon termination of the meeting.
"The Energy Minister of Kazakhstan commented on current negotiations between the management of the Italian company ENI heading Kashagan consortium and the Kazakhstan departments concerning conditions of the agreement on production section," the message underlines.
The commissioner and the Minister exchanged opinions concerning introduction of the Republic to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the last changes in legislative regulation of the EU energy market.
Cooperation in the energy sphere between the EU and Kazakhstan is carried out within the limits of the memorandum of mutual understanding in the field of energy cooperation between the EU and the Republic of Kazakhstan signed in December 2006.
