Chairman of Federal Space Agency confirmed interest of Russia in cosmodrome Baikonur
Baikonur. February 28. Kazakhstan Today - The Chairman of the Federal Space Agency confirmed interest of Russia in preservation of activity of cosmodrome Baikonur, the agency reports referring to the press service of the Federal space agency.
Today the expanded session of the board of the Federal space agency considered the issue of the order of expansion and work at cosmodrome Vostochny in Moscow. Roscosmos chairman Anatoly Perminov said that within the limits of development of space activity of Russia in 2007 - 2020 and for the period till 2040 Russia plans to create the cosmodrome of scientific, social and economic purpose Vostochny.
As it was informed earlier, cosmodrome Baikonur has been rented by Russia in Kazakhstan since 1994, and in 2004 the contract of the rent has been prolonged by the joint decision of the Presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia till 2050. The President of the Russian Federation stated firm intention of Russia to remain in Baikonur at the annual press conference on February 14.
Russia, as the partner of Kazakhstan, also participates in creating space rocket complex Bayterek, launching complex of which will be constructed at cosmodrome Baikonur.
