Kazakhstan to reduce power consumption of GNP by three times by 2025
Astana. March 19. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan plans to reduce power consumption of gross national product by three times by 2025. The Minister of Environment Protection Nurlan Iskakov informed at the round table - Pressing Issues of Energy Consumption in Kazakhstan, the agency reports.
"According to the target parameters of transition to stable development, approved by the governmental decree for the past 17 years it is necessary to lower power consumption of GDP by more than three times and to raise efficiency of use of all types of resources twice," the minister said. It is planned to increase fraction of alternative energy sources in the structure of power supply of Kazakhstan by two times.
Now in Kazakhstan the share of use of alternative energy sources makes 0.2 % of the general energy consumption while in the USA this parameter makes 3 %, in EU - 6 %.
The Republic has significant potential of hydraulic power estimated at 170 billion kw/h a year. In wind power engineering, the potential of 1.8 trillion kw/h can be realized, potential development of solar energy is estimated at 2.5 billion kw/h a year.
In N. Iskakov's opinion, introduction of energy saving technologies and renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan till now has been complicated due to absence of the corresponding legislative base. He noted that the ministry has developed the bill on support and use of renewable energy sources, which will be considered by the Parliament this year.
