Temir Block
In the second half of 2000, Maersk Oil Kazakhstan GmbH, a subsidiary of Maersk Olie og Gas AS of Denmark, acquired a 60% interest in the onshore Temir Block, covering an area of 14,474 km2. The Block is located approximately 100 km south of Aktobe in the western part of Kazakhstan.
Maersk Oil Kazakhstan GmbH is the operator of the block. Veba Oel Kasachstan GmbH is partner with a 40% interest. The acreage is operated under a Production Sharing Contract signed in 1992. Exploration activities have until now resulted in one oil discovery, the Saigak Field, presently in the final stages of development and undergoing test production. Further exploration activities are ongoing.
Dunga Field
In mid-2002, Maersk Oil Kazakhstan GmbH signed an agreement to acquire a 60% interest in the onshore Dunga Block, covering 280 km2. The Block is located approximately 50 km north of the port of Aktau on Kazakhstan’s Caspian coast.Maersk Oil Kazakhstan GmbH is the operator of the Dunga Field. Oman Oil Company Limited and Partex (Kazakhstan) Corporation each holds a 20% interest. The Dunga Field is operated under a Production Sharing Contract signed in 1994. Pilot production is presently ongoing. Maersk Oil Kazakhstan GmbH plans to implement further pilot production activities in order to establish the commerciality of full field development and production.
Corporate History
Maersk Oil Kazakhstan GmbH is a wholly owned subsidiary of Maersk Olie og Gas AS of Denmark.
Maersk Olie og Gas AS (Maersk Oil) is a company jointly owned by the Danish shipping companies Aktieselskabet Dampskibsselskabet Svendborg and Dampskibsseskabet af 1912, Aktieselskab (operating under the name Maersk Sealand).
Maersk Oil was established in 1962, when Mr. A.P.Moller, the founder of the shipping companies, was awarded the sole concession for oil and gas exploration and production in Denmark.
Since its early years, Maersk Oil has systematically trained and developed a staff of managers and highly competent oil field personnel that now totals around 1,100.
Global Activities
Currently, successful activities have resulted in production operations in Kazakhstan, Denmark, Qatar and Algeria (non-operated). Exploration and development activities are furthermore ongoing in Kazakhstan, Oman, Germany, United Kingdom and Brazil.
In 2000, the oil production operated by Maersk Oil exceeded 400,000 barrels per day and the gas export was up to some 900 million cubic feet per day.
Personnel safety and environmental protection are of prime concern to Maersk Oil in all of its operations.
With its experience, expertise and background in the A.P. Moller Group, Maersk Oil is well equipped to perform technical and economic evaluation expeditiously in order to arrive at decisions and proceed with project implementation without delay.
Maersk Oil continues to seek ventures with other companies who have similar business objectives. The long-standing partnership with Shell and Chevron-Texaco in the Danish North Sea is a prime example of co-operative efforts leading to tangible and successful results.
