Volume of grain yield in net weight to make 20 million tons in 2007 - Kurishbayev

Astana. November 29. Kazakhstan Today - Volume of grain yield in net weight in 2007 will make nearly 20 million tons. Vice Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Akylbek Kurishbayev informed on Wednesday during the second grain forum, the agency reports. "We believe that total grain crop in weight will make about 20.1 million tons, including wheat - 16.6 million tons," A. Kurishbayev noted. For the last 5 years mid-annual production of grain crops in comparison with the previous period (1998 - 2002) increased by 2.7 million tons, or by 21 %, the crop area - 1.7 million hectares, or by 12 %, productivity - by 0.7 ө/hectares, or by 7 %. "According to the preliminary results, in 2007 the record harvest made 22.6 million tons of grain in initial weight that is by 22 % more than crop in 2006," he noted. "Productivity in comparison with the last year as a whole in the Republic is higher by 1.8 ө/hectares and totals 14.8 ө/hectares," vice Minister emphasized. He reminded that 18.6 million tons of wheat has been harvested. Vice Minister emphasized that production of wheat has per capita reached 1078 kg that allowed Kazakhstan this year to be the 1st in the world taking the lead over Australia.
